The last growing period i.e. 2009 brought us a lot of satisfaction and interested results of research works. We present some of them:
- The extraordinary and important results of three years old lasting studies on water retention under the conditions of extreme urban conditions (rubble site between two lanes of the street). Studies were conducted by Professor Baranowski's team on horse chestnut trees treated with our mycorrhizal inoculum three years ago. Just now because of the fact that mycelium reached very high density in the soil results were very pronounced. Mycelium was able to keep almost whole water in the rhizosphere and limited infestation of the trees by horse chestnut leaf miner was also reduced almost to zero. Those results clearly indicate the high potential of mycorrhizal fungi in limitation of adverse effects of soil drought and in improving plant resistance against pests. The next confirmation of these observations are incredibly positive effects of artificial inoculation with ectomycorrhizal fungi on poplar plat grown for energy in semiarid condition in southern Spain. In April 2007 five rows of poplar coppice were inoculated by mycorrizal fungi. In the summertime in both years were periods of severe drought. It happened that control part of the plantation almost died out while treated by our mycorrhizal inoculum were almost 7 m high.
- Heather family (rhododendron, heather, blueberry)
Cycle of studies already lasting several year with ERM fungi conducted by Professor Orlikowski's team can be briefly summarized as a great success in the filed of biological control against Phytoftera. Finally we have isolated mycorrhizal fungi of heather type which are able to protect plant roots against Phytophthora in 100%. The growth stimulation effects were also seen - that fact is very important for blueberry growers. There are several hectares of mycorrhized blueberry plantations in Poland and I sincerely believe that this area will increase soon because establishment of young plants is very easy. Results of field studies will be published soon.
- Grape is the species which we can be very proud of - we have manufactured the first ectomycorrhizal inoculum for it. The main research progromme is conducted by Dr. Marcin Kolasiński under supervision of Professor Stanisława Korszun from Natural University in Poznań. From two years studies it can be concluded that stimulation of vegetative growth can be found at different levels and it is accompanied by favourable increase of fruit parameters - higher content of total sugar and extract with yield increase. When response of grapevine plants to water deficit was tested it was found that mycorrhiza application resulted in better plant resistance to drought. The positive correlation to result with poplar and horse chestnut is visible. The conclusion is easy to draw - mycorrhizal fungi are albe to improve water supply of higher plants.
- Urban green areas
During the Mycorrhizal Symposium in Zielonka (1-2 June 2009) participants showed and noticed very favourable biological effects of artificial mycorrhization of trees planted in urban soils. I have o doubts that with the time effects will be more visible because of full development of mycelium in soil and tree roots what may last 3-4 years. Application of living mycelium not dry spores can give simple and effective mycorrhization. We have noted some attempts to depreciate our achievements and effectiveness of inocula produced by MYKOFLOR but because of the fact that quality of our inocula have already been verified y science and by market we are sure that our customers will not believe in such a gossips.
- Our inocula for home gardening have gained a wide recognition among customers at Polish and Western Europe markets. We are sorry to say that but some companies in act of defence of their products try to attack our inocula saying that the have short expiry period. I would like to mention that vaccines which consist bacteria of reduced viability have expiry period of 12 months whereas our fungal inocula consisted of fully viable mycelium have expiry period of 18 months. It is evident for anyone who has elementary biological background that product based on living organisms cannot have infinite expiry period.
We would like to clear up situation concerning our partnership with company "Zielony Dom". Last year at our Website we announced that we have discontinued this partnership, for reasons, which we then hadn't revealed. Therefore innuendos concerning termination of this partnership are not true, particularly the one's undermineing our inocula quality. During our parnership company "Zielony Dom" considered our inocula to be very good and even the company had promoted it's own brand, "V-R" , basing on our inocula. But suddenly, when we discontinued our partnership, "Zielony Dom" started claiming, thath our incula are very bad. American's inocula can not be compared with our inocula because one cannot compare inocula based on dry spores to living mycelia as one cannot compare bag of seeds to fully grown forest.
